Golf Ball Math
To introduce geocaching to a class, I do an activity called Golf Ball Math. It gets the students used to using a gps unit while finding golf balls located around the school. There are 9 golf balls each with a letter on it (A-I) and a number. The number that is on each golf ball becomes a number in a math problem. For example, Golf Ball A has 32 on it and golf ball B has 15. Students may have to solve a problem like "Write the sum of golf balls A and B." They would solve the problem 32 + 15 =. You can reuse the golf balls this way just come up with different problems. "What is the product of gold balls A and B?" I have attached the field sheet to write what number is on each golf ball and sample 4th grade problems.
